Suggested Email/Letter Language
Here's an example of an email/letter you may want to send your congressmen:

Dear Congressman,

Please do not pass Senate Bill 500 or any similar bills!

I am a pawnshop customer. Me and millions like me need and use pawnshops. We rely on pawnshops to pay for unexpected hospital bills, car breakdowns, and other unforeseen expenses.

Thanks for trying to lower the interest rate to 36% or even 15%, but no thanks for driving the pawn industry out of business. The pawn industry has been in business for thousands of years and was the only functional lender during the Great Depression. You are insulting me and a third of America by saying, "Tough luck if you need to borrow $50 from a pawnshop. Next time you should be financially responsible." $50 is a lot of money to millions of Americans. Shame on you! Who is going to provide me with the loan I need if there are no pawnshops? The government? A bank? They've already turned their backs on me.

In your Utopian world, everyone has savings tucked away or good credit for a loan in times of need. As we all know, that isn't reality. Americans are often faced with unexpected expenses. You are trying to prescribe financial medicine to a third of America without asking any of them or understanding their needs. Next time you want to do me a favor, ask me first. Don't pass bill S.500 (or any similar bill)!

Sincerely,
(your name here)
